Chem eqn test, Phy CCT, Humanities Quiz 2008
Tuesday, April 29, 2008

Tonight is a beautiful night. There isnt any homework today, and it also concludes CCTs for this week. Friends have returned to playing soccer after school, and I have returned to wandering around!

The day started with Maths, went through some questions, then got informed about the Performance Task tomorrow...ok...Then was Chemistry, Mr Koh came in and i asked him as he was giving out the papers, whether this was a mock test, lol. He laughed then said its not...but as we were doing the test, he wrote the answers on the board, but I didnt realise, my mind is really focused during tests, only on the paper, lol. Only realised when people were making some noise...So only took the real test after going through the mock test... And this time, Mr Koh told us of a typo error in the paper, and because I wasnt listening...I went on to write Na instead of K. Then when trying to balance...ok, was shocked, how can Na appear when there isnt any on the other side?? Then saw the whiteboard and was like...ok... So you see, being too focused isnt always good. And I already got one wrong. (wrote out exactly what I got wrong, but thought maybe its revealing questions and cheating, so took it off)

Then was English, which we all slacked thinking about our topic for Social Advocacy and accusing other groups of copying ours, lol. Recess, went to RJ with the whole group, want to replenish energy for CCT, haha. I think I accidently ordered too much curry on my rice, and my whole plate was filled with those yellow kind and the more reddish kind of curry, lol. Hurried back to class, and Mr Koh was already standing there waiting, wow no time to revise formula and stuff. But heck, dont think it will make a difference lol. The paper was so difficult I didnt understand both the question and options for some of the MCQ. And theres a thing in Physics, I always wonder if they are tricking us, so will always give gl answers, and always get them wrong. Tried not to give those kind of answers this time...please do well...

Went off to prepare for hmanities quiz after Physics CCT, while the class continues to have Philosophy lesson. But from wat I heard...they werent actually listening lol, so means that I didnt miss out? lol. Eg. Watch movie, play games, talk crap...lols unbelievable.

We were all really nervous before the quiz, lots of problems...eg. power for buzzers suddenly got cut off, laptops running out of battery, stage running out of space, etc. But when the show got started, it went pretty smoothly. And i was laughing at how the quiz went, when some of the houses couldnt really answer, especially at the start of the quiz, when they didnt answer a few questions in a row, lol. I was in charge of the buzzers, really nervous, cos have to react fast...very fast, since the buzzers werent labelled, so had to refer to the list and stuff. My favourite part was when one of the other houses skipped a level 5 question and hullett snatched it and got it correct. That was a bonus 500 points to hullett! So it went very well overall, and hope the audience really enjoyed it! We did. lols, going to get a small party sometime later to celebrate. haha

Then after the quiz Jim and I went to eat lunch and I went to den, haha. Slacked a bit then went to scouts shop with Kenneth, Alvin and ZhongJun. Just to take a walk. Talked a lot to the person there again, lol. Tomorrow is cooking race! and maths pt.

First Scouts Training!
Monday, April 28, 2008

Haha, today has been a tiring day, firstly because of maths cct, I have been trying to remember the formula and stuff all day...then maths cct was...alright, but I did make a few careless mistakes, which I found and changed, and nearly got stuck at 2 questions, namely one on graphical solutions of equations and one on the positive/negative roots concept...hope I do well!

Then right after was, yes, my first scouts training! But went slightly late cos forced us to clean the class up before leaving...reached there in my uniform and saw that they were already in the horseshoe (still not sure why they call it that). So scrambled to get in, and...ok. So, quite a bad start, if you ask me. Haha, but I prefer to just laugh it off and go on... Then went into groups to feedback on the annual show they had. It was supposed to be for them, so I didnt know the details, and gave anyone who felt strongly for an option my vote, lol. Then, went into our patrols, mine is Falcon! Today we did skills revision, but to me its more of, skills learning, haha. Realised that we are all going to take a test next week, so I worked hard, especially at the knots part, which we spent most of our time on, cos the others were 'mugg-able', lol. Learnt some knots, like the rolling hitch, and a little square lashing. (dont suan if you know more, i know im noob...) Meanwhile, I was also trying to get to learn the names of people in 01, so...learnt some today, but hope I wont forget them. (even though more stuff for the tests are coming in and demanding a space too)

Finished everything, then went to slack a bit in the den, when Haliim, told a joke. He asked me if I wanted to go gym. (Jim) haha, but this wasnt the really funny one, continue reading below... then went to play soccer with the others, and...deflected the ball into my own goal. Why do I have such an affinity with the ball and my own goal? This didnt happen only once, also happened a miserable 2 times in about 10 minutes that I played during recess a few weeks ago...lols.

Then the few of us sec 3s went to the canteen to get some drinks, and Kenneth, who walked towards me from the other side of the canteen (direction of the gym), said "Jack, gym", so I was like..."huh?now?"...then he said "Jack, gym" again, and I said "now ah?"...then he repeated himself again, but using a different tone and pointing behind. So i was wondering, and looked behind...and saw a person at the water cooler...Jim. Oh my, that was really super jaack... I never believed that such a thing could ever happen... And Kenneth and the others behind were all laughing cos they all realised what just happened...lols, I laughed a lot myself too, it was the funniest thing that has happened to me in a long time, lol. Then went home with Alvin Chua, cos we went home the same way, haha.

Ok, so today was pretty much just that, going to do cooking race on wednesday! To my understanding, its something like...you get allocated ingredients, and within the time limit and using the ingredients only, you have too cook up a meal, haha. lols, sounds fun!

And tomorrow will be the Physics CCT and Chemical equations test. I think im going to flunk...just cant understand physics...chemistry is at least a little better... And now, my head is burning, and also my eyes, lol. Dont know why, think I had too little sleep...so, like the usual, good luck! X)

Nice show!
Sunday, April 27, 2008

Today, yes, woke up late again, and read the newspapers. Then went through the interesting classifieds section. (lols) I only read the fifth page though (i think), cos they always have a few reviews and some interesting things people want to buy/sell/exchange. Then read about a Japanese drama, called Liar Game, and it sounded good. I had a feeling that it would be similar to how Death Note just captivated people, with all the logic and pyschological puzzles, and tried a few episodes. And up till now, it hasnt disappointed me one bit, it was really exciting how the people tricked each other and stuff. I strongly encourage all to give this show a try, especially if you have enjoyed Death Note! It is about this girl, who is too gullible for a own good, receiving an invitation to join the Liar Game Tournament. (by accident) And forced by circumstances to continue. She would never have lasted if not for a swindler, whom she had found to help her...Very nice!

Okay, now you must be wondering how I have the time to do all these when there are so many deadlines...Erm...Im thinking about this myself too. Okay, I reduced time spent on msn and...homework and revis...ok, nvm. But Im working hard now, so best of luck to everyone for their tests! And tomorrow will be my first 01 training...cant wait!

work to be done: - (I wish)
Saturday, April 26, 2008

Today has been a usual Saturday again. Woke up late, ate breakfast. Then did some work. Maths Performance Task! Oh my, I suspect that the maths department is trying to fail us for this assignment. Its just complicated...all the x, y and d...in different forms, etc... And its about a person throwing a javelin. Stuck. Wow. Ok, theres just too much work and too little time. (for rest) I am so looking forward to the days after the tests...

ending- the start of a new beginning
Friday, April 25, 2008

The last few days have been really fun, haha. The muster parade on wednesday and bubble tea drinking after that...and on yesterday,

We were supposed to have an extra maths lesson yesterday afternoon with Mr Cheng, so Teng Chuan, Hiok Yang and I stayed back after school and waited for the lesson at the den. (yay, the den is very interesting, lots of things inside haha) Then when we got back to class, it was locked and our stuff were thrown out, wow. Mr Cheng wasnt there too. So we waited, then went to find Mrs Lim, who was also giving some extra lessons in another class. Mrs Lim called his hp, his staff room no., both no reply. Then we waited outside the classroom, and were talking about how it would be the end for him if he forgot about this lesson. But then he did come after some time, but only the three of us + JiaWei were there. So we went to another classroom, and just did the supplementary exercises for quadratic equations. Mr Cheng was a bit disappointed, cos the people who actually needed the lesson didnt go. That wasnt the fun part, please. lol. Ok, then the three of us went home together. Lols talked a lot on the bus, so fun. Teng Chuan got off first, then me, then sad Hiok Yang had to take another 30mins or so.

Today was a busy day, with all the house carnivals, swimming carnivals...but after school, I went to the den again to rest after lunch before going for humanities club, to rehearse for next tuesday's interhouse humanities quiz! I think it would be quite good, but dont mind the mistakes we might make, cos its the first time the quiz is being held in such a big scale...Im doing AV, so wish me gd luck!! Ok, so after the rehearsal, met PL Kenneth and then we went to scout shop to buy the uniform! It was, as usual, quite a bad experience, lol.
1. While trying to try out a shoe (lol), I tore the plastic bag keeping the show to get it out and then he started telling me about what Baden Powell said about returning the place better than it was...ok, so I kept apologising, but he kept saying...Kenneth knows.
2. He confused me with all the numbers, by multiplying the amount by 100, so when i paid him i multiplied by 100 too. then remembered about name tag, so ordered and then he did another thing, he multiplied by 100, then told me an amount...then said it was for 10. Confused.
Okay, but I dont blame him, I think its quite boring there. But the point is, yay I got my uniform! But now, its the uniform that worries me. What do I do with all the things... Went home with Kenneth today, and took a way that I havent taken for quite some time, haha. It always nice to have a change in scenery, occasionaly. He really helped me a lot for all the buying and moving around...thanks so much! Still praying hard, really hard that I can fit in well.

End of this 'rest' week...Tests next week...Maths CCT on Monday, Physics CCT and Chem equations test on Tuesday, Chinese zuowen test on Friday. Projects/Assignments...Chinese project on the 2008 BeiJing Olympics, Maths performance task, English Social Advocacy Project, RE Survey. Woa stress leh, hope it will be over soon... So until next time...

My sort of first Muster parade + napfa
Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Today two important things happened. haha. First, about 2/3 of my class took most of the NAPFA test today- the 5 stations. I was really worried about my pull-ups, cos I havent been training for a very long time, partly because there was no training for me during the transition period of the CCAs. And in the end I got B for that section, and just barely got the As for the rest. Luckily TengChuan encouraged me to go ask Mr Chng for my second try at SBJ, cos the other teacher only gave me one try, which I got B for. Sit and Reach was miraculous too, cos people beside were like telling me to reach further, and get A...and I stretched until my thighs were aching, lol doesnt make sense...but thanks so much to them! So...thats about all, note that Im not like some other people who can do so much more than the A standard, haha. I barely pass them every year...

Then after school was muster parade, where all the UGs have to go and gather and do drills for a while. Since I didnt have the uniform yet, I decided to just stay at the side and watch. After a while, they went to gather under the clocktower and that was when I crept up to them and listened. Surprisingly, Mr Yuen saw me and told those who were there that I was the new member! And that Im going to Falcon patrol! Which has 2 Sec3s and a Sec2 who is leaving, according to Alvin haha. Felt quite welcomed by them, the 'traditional' 01 welcome, haha. Though when I tried to enter the scouts den, was asked by one of J1s to get out...(I was wearing school uniform, unlike the rest) When I told him that I in 01, he didnt believe me... Omg, I felt so lousy then...Until another person told him that I was the new member. (Im still trying to remember the names...) Okay, so then I got sort of a handbook for the scouts stuff that I have to learn, haha. Lots of things...especially knots. Also bought an 01 shirt so that I can wear it next time for training, haha. Then went to Scout shop with some of them, to take a look. The person there was very AP and had to go against everything we said. Okay, I am going to have to return there sometime to buy my uniform, so better not say too much... So in the end, out of the about 8 who went, only Alvin managed to get his badges. We then went to buy bubble tea, haha, and Hiok Yang bought peppermint (i think) just because Amos bought it, and he didnt like it, so Amos suggested selling it to him. Really funny seeing them negotiate the selling price haha. Then they said on the phone that they were on Hiok Yang's mother's car, to avoid...ok, they werent that bad la, those in that RE group went back to school for an extended RE period, while I went home with Joel, and we talked a lot about school and stuff, haha.

Today has been such a special day for me, the first time in such a long time (haha) that I have actually experienced the team spirit...just hope that I can blend in quickly, get along very well with them, and learn their ways, haha.

Speaking of team spirit, and as much as I hate to end of this special post on a bad note, my own RE has been rather bad because a person just keeps ponning meetings, which are of high importance. AND choose to do his own stuff instead of simple group work. Really disappointed.

Parliament!
Monday, April 21, 2008

Today nothing much happened cos its one of those 'very academic days', but I did manage to find out a little of what the RCCOSTPUAH-TDHBFS I have been seeing so much of means, haha. So curious...

Then after school was really fun, cos we went to the Parliament, a place that I never imagined I would have a chance of ever going lol. I went with Shaun, BenChin and ShengWei from 3T and the whole of 3P (apparently, their form teacher forced them to go). We went there and first went through rounds and rounds of security check, getting all the passes...taking off everything...in pockets. So wasted quite some time before getting in. There was a very funny female education guide their with us, and she's like so funny, making comments about us. But I didnt get her as my guide, got another person, an older guy who is boring...

Anyway, watching them talk about the parliament stuff was very fun and exciting, cos they are things about your own country, and whats more, they discussed about Mas Selamat today! We watched Mr Wong Kan Seng make his statements and trying to answer questions from the other MPs. He...was not very good in his answering and sometimes didnt answer the questions at all...but of course there were also some insightful ones made. Heard that Mas Selamat escaped through the ventilation system at the detention centre! So people were asking, how was that possible? Even our houses have window grills lor, thats a security facility by the way...

And I also saw many ministers in person! ok, sort of cos its from behind a glass pane. Some of them look quite different from when they are outside, so it was quite an eye-opener. Also realised some trends and differences between how different people speak in the parliament, very interesting. Oh yes, we had to bow each and every time we entered or left a room (the MPs too), and we went into 3 different rooms for a variety of views. So that makes 6 bows haha. In those rooms we could also listen to the translated version of what the MPs are saying cos they have translators there. It can be wierd listening to the translated version, haha. I wonder how they listen, translate then say the words out at the same time? Theres also someone recording down whatever is being said in the parliament, and he needs to be able to write 150 words per minute! Thats fast...if I could write like that, I would have so much more time to think through my essays before writing them, haha.

Theres also a mace oin the centre table of the parliament, which separates the people into two divisions, the ruling party and the opposition. But for obvious reasons both are now mostly taken up by the ruling party members, haha. Gnereally, Ruling party on the right of the speaker of the parliament (the biggest person around there) and the opposition on the left. Back to the mace, it symbolises the power of the person who is speaking and the authority of the parliament. I wonder what they will do if its somehow not there?

Anyway, it was a really fun and eye-opening trip to the parliament! The MPs so cool, lol. Someone even 'took' what he called Parliament toilet paper and brought it home as souvenir...lol?

01 Scouts Annual Show!
Saturday, April 19, 2008

I just returned from the 01 Scouts Annual Show/Campfire and it was really great! My first 01 event! Reached there about 7pm and went to the second floor gallery where Jim and I stayed for most for the show. From there, we could see everything, from the path that the people took while doing the thousand-legged worm thing, to all the performances. The show was very well-planned, cos it kept me entertained for more than 2 hours straight, and made me sit on the edges of the chair (ok, partly due to the railing blocking my view), when on normal circumstances I would have fallen asleep...haha.

Firstly, I have to say that the whole production was very well made, from costumes to the banners to the choreography, those poles things outside, things like that, also lighting and sounds. =) Liked the atmosphere there.

The show was about two guys from Ancient Rome, who tries to steal things (thats why the show is called Oceans 1! and obviously 01, haha), like a head that could turn lead into gold, lol. They kept failing, and even got 'killed' by guards, lol, and went into a place between heaven and hell, where they met some angels and devil-like things who destroyed each other. So they went on to the future (the place worst than hell), which is the year 2008, haha. And just tried to steal again...

Haha, dont want to write out the whole story, its exclusive lol. I liked A LOT of things about the show, and some are a must to be named, like dance by the Rome guards, which consisted of many of my friends, and was very cool, swinging the sticks around, they called it pole dance, lol. To these people, you guys didnt screw up okay...it was really nice! A little bit of problem here and there is nothing, haha. We all know the effort you've put in...=) And then theres the "Award-winning dance by RI Red Cross". It really had won an award, and I found it very jaw-dropping how they managed to do all they did, very coordinated, and all the human puppets... And haha some friends of mine were among them too! Another nice one was the one by the ventures, the dance was funk i think, very well done, very fast hands and feet.

Thoroughly enjoyed the show! Wanna say job well done to all friends in 01! Sad that they still had to stay back to keep everything, and I had to leave slightly earlier cos my parents were already there... Anyway, this show has made me feel even more enthusiastic about 01! When I felt all the shouting and screaming...when I sang the scout songs together with them, haha, when I saw them putting their hands on each others shoulder and moving side to side...it feels so...i cant begin to describe it. Today was fun! Im looking forward to my first training...

Tomorrow my family will be going to visit our ancestors for 清明节, I know its over, dont ask me why, but my family just does it later. So tmr will be pretty much taken, for this and some more work...

For pics on the show, please refer to Alvin's blog! Cos mine is nothing compared to his, haha. =)

This week...
Friday, April 18, 2008

Haha, I havent posted since Monday, cos of the CCTs and other stuff. (obviously) And my CCA stuff has been falling into place really slowly, and giving me some free time to do some extra stuff while its still being finalised. I will most probably be joining the 01 Scouts (yay) after the Annual Show tomorrow. Im always so anxious about things, and including this transfer, which I try to get done quickly, but cant, cos I couldnt find Mr quek today to get my form and make the transfer official...and have to wait till he returns from overseas...about one plus week later.

Anyway, today I have been at school after school today (sounds wierd), for Humanities Club and then to Chinese Cultural Camp (CCC) as helper, with XinYan. Humanities Club, just did our usual stuff but were busier today, because of the upcoming Humanities Week, in conjunction with Earth Day. So do expect many activities during that week! Its gonna be fun, lol. CCC was quite hillarious, all the performances and acting, but I was there only to help with the logistics, so could enjoy and not be stressed with them. (except when giving away the prizes, and one of them asked me to throw his prize to him and I did. It ended up at the back of the LT, lol and sorry!)

CCTs are over for the week, and I really have no idea how I have done, except that I didnt do well for chem. (according to chem pros in my class) For SS and Geography, I think I got very lucky and got tested on whatever I have studied on. SS in particular, cos I only studied on the causes of conflict and it was really the only thing tested. Was laughing in my heart for the whole paper lol. For both the humanities papers, I was just spamming the paper with words and trying to fill it with whatever knowledge I have. Thats one thing I learnt from the last geog test, which many ppl failed. My handwriting got very visibly, increasingly horrible as I wrote my essay, lol. So at the end, all I could write were scibbles, hope the teacher can read them lol. My hands were tired, lol, was writing with the whole arm.

For some reason, I always feel a sense of satisfaction looking back at a piece of long essay/work, lol. Probably some childish thinking, that big/long things are good. I like to see the paper filled with words and having the crumpled feeling from all that writing... thats what motivated me to write 习字 last time, lol, no joking. I think I sound silly, but thats really true for me, wonder if its the same for other people...

Finally the end of a long week! Time to get some rest...

Today im thinking: Why does time pass so slowly and/or quickly during tests? Fast when you are having trouble finishing the paper, or realised a mistake at the last minute... Slow, when you finish the paper a lot before the end time and have nothing to do except check again and again (which almost does not happen at all nowadays), or when you look back at the test as a whole, when u realised that so much has been done in that 1 hour or so...or when you finish a week of tests and realised the week seems a lot longer than it usually seems, like today... Isnt it ironic how the two comes together?

RI B div Rugby Finals!
Monday, April 14, 2008

Today was quite a fun day at school, lessons were quite slack cos chinese we were going through 公函 and Bio was just some copying work...Physics was a station kinda thing, not very fun though... In other words, lessons were slack today. Yay. PE was 2.4km run and I...just ran. But some ppl were making comments about someone and lagged a bit behind...

Chemistry CCT was...alright, just that they completely did not test what I expected them to...about the different properties of different structures... And tested a lot on my weakest topic: Experimental techniques... though the extra chemistry remedial I went to did help me quite a lot...

Rugby finals was after school, and many of us went down to support, after Mr Koh, made it a 'class outing', lol. Forgot to take pictures but did take some back at school, but the subjects didnt wish for it to be posted, so lol. We cheered pretty hard, and was leading 11-10 until somewhere near te end when they scored something and it became 11-15... So it was a bit of a pity...cos this is the first time in many year, that RI managed to reach the finals. But it was heartwarming to see people from the public, RGS, RJC, RPA, even SJI come and support us...I even took the flag back as a 'souvenir'.

Sunday
Sunday, April 13, 2008

K, so its Sunday, the day before the 'important' Chem test. (to Mr Koh at least) So, I went to have a light jog in the morning, after some sleep and chatting until about 2+am with TengChuan and Mr Koh, lols! Was asking about Chem stuff okay, alright maybe some crap fun stuff too.

Then did the usual Sunday stuff, haha. Of course its back to revision...

Lunch was eating out, to celebrate my Dad's birthday, which happens next week, lol. but he insisted on 'celebrating' today too... So we went to eat something nice, lol. Think I will die because of all the food from birthdays. I mean its good to celebrate, but too much food like these will make me fat and even worse, do badly at NAPFA... So I should watch out...

Anyway, after lunch was another round of mug-till-you-drop kinda thing, until now when I decided to take a break and of course dinner just now. Tomorrow will be the national finals for our school's rugby team! A stage where we have not been at for many years already, so its a very big thing for us, especially because its part of our school's culture. To get as many of us to go down to the Padang as possible, the school even postponed our CCT on tuesday. So I thought it was important, and so did Mr Koh and he made it a class outing (compulsory) for all of us in 3T to go unless we've got a valid reason, which I dont. So, guess im going tmr! And I also wanna do well in this cct and get a 4.0 for Chem! Heard that, Mr Koh? Currently its at low 70s...anyway, good luck to everyone!

Oh yea...got the results for the year thus far...
English- Very Bad (Hoping for a miracle...)
HCL- Fair (Hoping for a round up)
Maths- Yay!
Biology- Not bad...
Chemistry- Decent
Physics- Bad.
Geography- Phew...lucky to 'tide' over
Social Studies- Just good...

Last but not least, Happy Birthday to certain people over the past few days! Please spare me if im wrong...
10th-Yen San =)
11th-Lin Jin =)
13th-Kenneth Kuan =)

HSSRP symposium
Friday, April 11, 2008

Today was international friendship day, so we celebrated it, by having the international students to perform and showcase their culture. Its almost the same every year (sorry, i said this), though there were indeed some new ideas like the Bollywood and the Vietnamese songs. The one I found quite bad was the Malaysia one, cos I remembered that it was about the same last year! Just some people talking...with elements of laughter. Ok, after that was SS lesson, then recess which JiaXuan and I had to go take physics test during. It was alright...not too difficult but not too easy too. Changed one of my answers at the last 30 seconds, how dangerous... Maths lesson was a bit bad, as usual, but we got back our statistics test today, so today's lesson was more 'exciting' than usual. Yay, I did well for statistics! But there were some who didnt, cos Mr Cheng, the trainee teacher from NIE didnt teach us the correct way to present our answers, and told us some ways that would be accepted which turned out to be unacceptable...so some people who were supposed to pass failed and some who were supposed to get full marks didnt. English was just videos on essay writing...Ms Quah seems to like YouTube a lot...

Anyway, right after school, went to buy some snacks and ate all the way from school to NTU, haha. The driver had a bad attitude, cos he sort of blamed Mrs Chee for his own mistake, and she had to apologise. I wonder how he works in the industry... Anyway, I slept and ate on the way to NTU for the HSSRP symposium, like a pig, lol. Reached there all excited, but had to sit there stoning for quite a while, luckily we had the HSSRP reports to read through.

The guest-of-honour was Ms Kit Chan, the person who sang the national day song 'Home' and acted in many plays... a very funny speaker, called herself a diva and said: "you damn well give me a big round of applause" lol. Her speach was really interesting and she even recited a poem by Robert Frost to us called 'Nothing Gold Can Stay' at the end, and she claimed that it was only her second time giving a speech, lol.

Presentation of HSSRP projects was next, and three groups presented. Two was about the facist period in Italy, one on the fall of liberism and the other on the arts during the facist regime. Sounds cheem to me too... An RI guy presented on another topic on something like the pronunciation of chinese words. Exact topic name: Phonological Variation and Change in Singapore Mandarin: A focus on the Removal of Aspiration from Voiceless Bilabial, lol. Very interesting topic, and it really enlightened me. I could tell that even the NUS high teacher was impressed by his work...

Break was nice, cos the food was quite tasty, and there were enough for everyone. (some ppl even packed some home to eat...) Was chatting with Francis and Aqid from the other group and talked about random funny stuff. Then went to listen to one of the concurrent sessions on Euthanasia and Bilingualism. Werent as good as those before, but we had some fun in the LT. Mr Low, philo teacher, was asking us to question them about their research, which was messy and a bit flawed.

Then took photographs...taken by a super funny photographer, whihc made us all laugh when the picture was taken. He showed us silly faces, tricked us...

Then went back to school, slept most of the way back lol.

Back at home, did maths and some RE, came up with some important points then just slacked, lol. Chat...and blog.

Grandma's Birthday
Thursday, April 10, 2008

Today after school and the 2-hour chemistry remedial, which was quite fun, I went home together with Teng Chuan, lol yesterday too. It seems like our route can be quite similar, had fun talking to him. And our class deco is quite filmsy, just keeps getting destroyed again and again. Hey we did put in effort, the three of us, so... Please be ok until after the judging...

Ok so I went home, and after some rest, I had to go and celebrate my Grandmother's birthday, and so left home...and just celebrated. But actually more of eating and having fun with my cousins lol. Nothing much to say, but food was quite good compared to last time, lol. Pics shall do the talking:

Me at the corner trying too hard to smile, lol

Us, trying to form random heart shapes with our hands, lol

So thats, about all today, still suffering from the emoing effects, but school and friends make me feel so much better...Physics quiz tmr, plus the HSSRP symposium, which all participants need to attend. Hope to see something interesting, and Shayne is not going again tmr, but he promised that it will be the last time, so lets see...

First Day of Sprints/Jumps Training
Monday, April 07, 2008

omg it was really difficult, all the drills and stuff. Although I have to thank JiaXuan, JianWei and HaoZhi so much for trying so hard to teach us everything... Looks easy to me the last time, but when I really try it, its just difficult, lol. I feel that Im not really suited for this section...just not talented and dumped here... I was quite bent on switching CCAs, but was also thinking of giving this CCA more chances, since I have already been here for such a long time and seeing all the help my friends have given me...

Was really confused, and went to seek help from tarot cards, and I picked an Empress card, the third card of the major arcanas, lol. It gave me an unfavourable reading (to me) and I think it told me to be patient and continue further, cos it might just blossom...said that things take time and stuff. So, ok because of this, I have decided to stay for just a while more before deciding for sure. Still cant understand how tarots can tell and answer almost any questions...

Anyway, I thank those friends whom I have spoke to so much about my dilemma, and really appreciate all their effort encouraging me and giving me very kind remarks, lol. Thank you so much Teng Chuan, Hiok Yang, Jian Wei and some others (sorry if i didnt mention it here, still sppreciated it!), maybe Alvin too... Okay, sorry for taking up so much of your time, Im sincerely grateful to all of you for listening to all my repetitive talking...and even telling me so much about your CCAs, lol. =)

I will need some more time to think this through, but meanwhile dealing with all the major tests coming up...also getting back some results for the first few months of the year...

Viriya Flag Day
Sunday, April 06, 2008

Early yesterday afternoon, I went to Woodlands MRT for Viriya Flag Day, and was really shocked to see so many others there from Innova JC, compared to quite a miserable no. of us... cos certain people didnt come, lol. Anyway, we got into our groups- LinJin, BenNah and Me in a group. Anyway I think we/Mr Koh were/was smart, no offense, so we went to nearby neighbourhoods. =)

Okay, I have to refer to LinJin's blog for reference now, cant tell the difference between places. Ok, so we actually decided to go to Marsiling, and walked in one direction following the MRT track. However, after walking for about 10mins, we realised we were walking in the wrong direction... We were going to Admiralty! (maybe not so smart, lol) Okay, so fine we continued walking and reached Admiralty, realising that there were no proper shopping malls there! And then we discussed about our plans return or continue to the next station, Sembawang...Being the person that I was, I said to continue and not return, lol. Anyway the distance to Marsiling from Admiralty would surely be further then to Sembawang....plus I knew that Sembawang had a Sun Plaza or something beside it, haha. So while walking, we again realised that Sembawang was actually far from Admiralty, compared to the distances between 2 other adjacent mrt stations....ok complicated. We even saw the scene of an accident, some ppl were kaypoing and some were just talking and policemen were doing their job... Ok, so we reached Sembawang, and this was approximately, 1 hour after the whole thing started. Wow we were really fast. 1 hour into the job and we still had nothing. But we just had to have a drink, and went to Mac's then started our work. Split into 2 smaller groups, BenNah and I, LinJin and Viet, who just joined us cos he was late to report to Woodlands, but TOOK THE MRT to Sembawang! My group quickly snatched what I call prime land, lol. Referring to the space between the MRT station and Sun Plaza, and we got donations pretty fast and well, while LinJin and Viet took the other end of the MRT station, where the 'business' wasnt so good. We didnt take breaks from then on, just told ourselves to work hard! Even had to endure the rain at the linkway and the hated backsplash. People just couldnt see that my whole back was wet...but thats ok, haha. I found out the secret of getting donations, and that is to give a polite greeting and a big smile, lol. Cos people would be happy and donate too, or at least a smile in return, or okay, the worst case ever is to ignore you completely. Smiles from people and nice gestures, powered me on! I also learnt how to tell whether or not someone is likely to donate. Note that these are general observations, so they do not apply to all and no offense intended.

Signs of "No, thank you":
-Avoid eye contact
-Sharp turn when reaching you
-Gloomy face
-Hide behind others
-Hands full of bags/children
-Pushing pram

Signs of "Yes":
-Smiles and comes to you
-Stands at one side while handing kids money to donate
-Purses/Wallets in hand
-Just bought something
-People who come and talk to you
-Other flag day participants, lol
-People who just bought toto/4d or wants to, more lol

Interesting moments:
1. One guy who looks like he's in JC (not doing flag day too) came to talk to us about his experience at a flag day last time, and told us about how 95% of his class were slacking while only he and a girl were doing it properly, lol. And said that we were 'considered' honest already. Hey, it wasnt like we were doing it half-heartedly! But he was very nice to us, and the first person who actually told us something instead of is telling them about the organisation.

2. A lady who walked to me and tried to take out coins from her pocket, but took out toto tickets instead, lol, revealing her true intentions...so she was too embarrassed and just went off...

3. Another lady who asked me to go to her and so I did. She donated and asked me for my bag no., saying that she wants to buy 4D with it, haha

4. Two girls who finished their duty in the morning walked past us towards Sun Plaza and donated, then when walking back towards the MRT station donated again. What generous people, lol.

5. Tried to explain in malay to a malay lady, who didnt speak english or chinese. Didnt really work, but she still donated becos of our effort! In the end the only proper malay words I spoke were "here" to tell her where to put in the money and "thank you", lols. very interesting.

6. Erm, a person who walked around in pyjamas...

Later in the day at about 5.45pm, we were joined by Alvin and ZiHeng, from Marsiling and some Innova people who BenNah said 'cut us off' from the other end of the mall, lol. But luckily we were finishing our shift, so it didnt affect us too much, I could tell that most of us were quite reluctant to leave that place, cos we all kept saying "just give out one last sticker" (=one more donation). Nearly ran out of stickers, lol, luckily I took an extra set when we left, haha. Had lots of fun doing flag day the first time, and got to see how society treats these people, haha. There are good and bad sides, but its quite real. Experienced slightly sore throat, dry mouth and lips, some extreme taoing, but they were all worth it and there were certain fun things too!

Went back to Woodlands by MRT this time, and returned our donation bags. The person said "Woa, quite heavy ah..." when he took my bag, lols. *thick-skinned* Okay, then I checked my phone, and omg, it read "15 missed calls". Is my hearing and feeling so bad? and I began to worry about them as I traveled to my grandmother's house. Then I accurately remembered that I should be worrying about myself cos I would be so scolded when I got home. Everything was fine at my grandmother's house, just feeling slightly tired, that's all, but got seriously 'showered' with 'words and comments' when I got home. Nobody wanted to believe that I really didnt know anything, and even blamed me for calling them back and not holding for a longer time so that they could pick up. I was also worried, okay? They werent the only ones. Okay, maybe its my fault, but I was tired and didnt want to listen to all that stuff, so yeah...I just shut up.

Today, a normal Sunday for me, but with the newly-designed Sunday Times, lol. It plays a huge part of my Sunday morning, so haha, found the new design quite nice and fresh and still love the content, cos its about interesting topics and trends, unlike normal newspapers on other days, haha. So...tomorrow will be a brand new monday, which means more work and i think we will be getting back some papers next week plus there's a physics test on friday...and tomorrow will be my first training under sprints/jumps, so will see how it goes.

Whats of great importance?
Saturday, April 05, 2008

Today morning, its really...GREAT! I love these mornings, when I wake up early and have so little work to do, but so much to do. Its a bright morning, and Im looking forward to the flag day later at woodlands in my convict outfit, haha. Jim woke up late just now and was rushing all the way to Ang Mo Kio, haha. He was lucky I woke him up lol.

Just had a really really fun, long-awaited chat with ZhenPng, the friend I havent seen for so long, about 16 months? You cant imagine the excitement and happiness I felt when he actually came and said hi to me. I was...stunned. Then, just continued chatting with him, telling him about life and stuff. And unknowingly, more than an hour had already passed without my knowing before we said our goodbyes. I think that I really really treasure every friend I have, and will continue to... Recently, something I didnt mention here about me getting in touch with a friend from 4 or 5 years ago who migrated...was really happy to get such a message too...cant understand myself. Why do I like my friends so much? or is it just normal? or am I just imagining things? Do I have a problem??? omg. I just want all of you to know that if I seem rude or uncaring to you or something, please do not take it to heart, Im really unstable sometimes...

Friday Finally
Friday, April 04, 2008

First and foremost, Happy Birthday Wan Jing! Wishing you happiness forever, lol, and dont emo too much!

I just finished writing on my class blog before dinner, and so now I have to rewrite the events today for my personal blog, but in a different way of course, so dont want to copy and paste. Okay, so first thing in the morning, Lin Jin showed the whole class some magic tricks. He had 2 decks of cards, and allowed Justin to choose any one deck to shuffle. He even asked Justin to pass it around to let othe people shuffle any way they want to. Then Justin took the deck back and exchanged decks with Lin Jin to make sure Lin Jin cant modify the deck that was shuffled. Lin Jin then told us that he will make the top 10 cards of each deck the same. Then they both opened up the top 10 cards together, and wow, it was exactly like he said. Dam pro.

Then we had chinese essay writing competition, and the topic was <<大海告诉我... ...>> We were all shocked when we saw the topic. Like ultra difficult to write about. I was thinking, couldnt write about life at sea cos I have never really experienced that before lol. My friend wrote that and guess what, he didnt know how to write 艘, from 一艘船. So he messed up. I wrote about life at the beach lol. But didnt follow what I had planned before starting and got a bit off the topic, so hope for the best, lol.

After chinese and recess was geog, and Dr Chionh confiscated the chinese overall test scores which was meant for checking becos someone was passing it around during her lesson...

After school, I went to the canteen to chat for a while before going to the usual meeting place for humanities club to have a short meeting session with our sponsors and have our annual party, lol. It wasnt much, but I really appreciated the effort of the teachers-in-charge, they got us great food, lol. So we celebrated while discussing about events in school, and then left. I missed my last throws training. I think it was destiny. Cos I forgot to bring my PE sttire and nobody was there, so I just left school after some support for my class' interclass soccer. Which we got a walkover becos the other class wasnt present. but I still gave them some food from the party to encourage them, lol. Then went off home.

Took some rest and blogged for my class. I think that its now still in the encouragement stage, where we have to get people to actually write something. Then because of guilt and whatnot, we went out again to take a quick jog, lol.

Not a lot of work this weekened (ok, there are quite a lot, but some are simply too difficult, pun)

Chem Car
Thursday, April 03, 2008

Today, school was pretty okay, had chem and physics lessons in the morning, then had PE! Its currently one of the subjects I look forward to the most, cos we can all get out of the class and just play ball! Today was our first handball lesson, and we all had lots of fun. It really reminded me of when I was in P6 and played handball for the house, after weeks and weeks of 'house training'. haha. It was one of the first time I was exposed to the excitement and anjoyment of played a team game/sport. (yes, i think i was antisocial). And up until now, I still love these games very much. They make you do better than you think you can, for the sake of the team and stuff. And seeing your friends play, you always have this feeling of wanting to support/help them in the game. Haha, maybe thats why Im liking basketball and soccer more and more. I have always loved handball and captainsball though haha.

After PE and recess was the maths topical assessment on statistics, which was rather simple, like many people would say. I shouldnt have worried so much about it, maybe? Then was Social Studies lesson, and we learnt more about the conflicts and discrimination in other countries such as Sri Lanka, Northern Ireland and Southern America in the past. Discussed some very interesting points. Thats why I like social studies...

Just came back from outside, Alvin, Teng Chuan and I were shopping around for items to create our car after designing it at school after classes. When we were just about to buy the stuff, we all checked our wallets and found that we all had just over the amount needed for the items, lol. So after buying, and some more exchange of money (lol), we went to Mac's so that Teng Chuan could eat his lunch and we could start a little planning. Lols, had to resort to paying via ez-link. Then went home after that, chatting to them on the way. Had a great time, lol.

I treasure my friends, a lot.

Learning Journey Day 2008
Wednesday, April 02, 2008

Unlike rgs, we only have one LJ day. But it was still fun. Kinda. We went to visit Fort Canning Park and the Changi Museum. Classic. Went to both places before in primary school, haha. And they havent really changed much. So the trip was actually boring, except some fun facts which I learnt about Singapore's history and more. Like the quilts which Australian women and children POWs sent to their husbands through the japanese so cleverly, and what flowery things some people in the past ate for, ahem. The fun part was going around with friends, doing something other than stoning in class learning. It shows people in their fun sides! My group's tour guide really knew her stuff well, and told us all the interesting (or not so) facts and info. We didnt care much about the worksheet given, lol. Just looked through and left it aside.

Finishing some philosophy work, some research work and revising maths- statistics for tomorrow's test! Simply must do well, and make up for my horrible english...

Today im thinking: Why do people want to be tour guides when they have to do so much, like get so much information in their heads, take care of and be responsible for the various aspects of the tour group, answer any questions, go to the same places over and over again, carry the important role of representing the people of the country, etc. They dont really earn as much as they ought to, dont they?

into dust...

Its April 2nd now, and I completely missed the chance to blog on April Fool's day, when I could have made up some silly story. With that being said, whatever im saying is true. These few days have been difficult on me. Firstly, is the final confirmation of the disbanding of the RI throws team. Mr Quek called Jim, Melvin and I to his office and just told that to us. (he forgot ChenWei) He said that we should have already expected it and asked us about our plans. He also told us it would be the best to stay in TNF, but to try out other events like the sprints, jumps, cross-country or pole vault for Melvin. That is so sad. I have actually been told of this a few times before, the earliest being a few months ago, but it hadnt been finalised then, and so I was hoping for the best, and now, look what happened. The truth just hurts, but it seems our throws team just isnt good enought to be even just a small section in our RI TNF and has to be disposed of. I can understand if the school doesnt want to pay for the coach and stuff, but why disband the whole section? Its ruining me. I have spent 2 1/4 years in this section, and now I am being forced to switch? Even though I attend the trainings consistently and frequently? Now what am I supposed to do? See all these done as just physical training? See all these as a waste of time? See all these as part of my school curriculum? I am lost. Completely lost. In sec 1, I chose to be in throws because I found it different from the others and fun. In sec 2, I faced lots of difficulties and also nearly gave up on this CCA, but I perservered, even when all the others were leaving me for good. (and likely a better future) I chose to stay, even when Im all alone. I did. And now, what did I get? The 2 1/4 years of perserverance and hard work has become 2 1/4 years of pain and regret. It really seems to me like that. I dont want to feel this way, that all these time and effort has been wasted, but I feel...so betrayed. My school can give up on me, just like that, when all the time I have been there, striving for the best, even if its in vain? Yes, to them they have 'minimised the damage' by letting the sec 4s stay for their last year. But what about me? Have they minimised the damage done to me? The last few weeks or so, I have seen some news reporting that school are becoming more like businesses- they close down whatever that doesnt produce the results they want. And that has drawn flak to schools. But reading about them, I could never make myself believe that I myself would have to be put through such an experience, of forced change. I admit im not performing well in this area of sports, I dont get any medal or in fact even the top 20 or so, but that doesnt make it less hurtful to me. It now looks like my schooling life is destined to be filled with changes in CCA. In primary school, I was in Scouts, Basketball, Maths Club and the NExIT Club (an IT and National Education club). Considering the cons of changing CCAs so much, I was determined to find for myself a CCA in which I would give it my all and stay in for the next four years in Secondary School. Thus I joined TNF's throws team. I rememberd that I joined just in the second year of throws, when I was in sec 1. Throws was a special section to me. It was unique and young, and so that also caused some differenciation between us and them. (the older sprints and jumps teams) Following my seniors, with a few peers with me. It was sort of a small family, with roughly 7 regular members. We depended only on each other for support, and helped each other in whatever way possible. This really brings back lots of memories, which are going to be lost. Like the time I got a serious leg cramp together with LiYuan after training, and we collapsed on to the track together, the countless times Martin corrected my techniques, it is him that has helped me gain the ability to catch techniques well. The times Martin brought us through tough trainings, and the times we just laughed and have fun after trainings. There are many things I have given up for an experience like this, and those are the things that really make me envy other CCAs. TNF is mostly NOT a team sport to me, and very little strong bonds can be formed, but for most of the other CCAs, it is pretty much a team effort, regardless of whether its the UGs or the Musical Groups, or some sports like hockey or softball. I believe it is in those situations that true friendships and bonds can be forged. Oh how I envy them.

I would have continued writing whatever that comes to mind. If not for my head slumping down from time to time. But at least, now you know why I really treasure any friends I might have. And learnt much more about my life.

(the time for this post is wrong, supposed to be about 2am)
